I currently use strategies from the Gottman approach and Emotionally Focused Therapy with couples. Couples usually benefit from individual sessions as well in which I can integrate other therapeutic approaches into treatment. Please note that couples therapy may not be a covered benefit in your insurance plan. In that case, insurance representatives usually recommend a couples therapy session be billed as a family therapy session. I completely agree that couples are family and have no problem billing as such. If you are using insurance and we are billing as a family therapy session, there will have to be an intake session with either partner being the primary patient. Insurance will likely require a diagnosis for this person. If this is a concern for you, please let me know and we can talk more.
